Easter egg, as a piece of art
Guest exhibition
2007-02-24 - 2007-04-22

These days for most of us the Easter egg is primarily a reminder of our beloved spring religious holiday: Easter. The tradition of painting and decorating eggs, however, dates back earlier than the celebration of Easter.

Several ethnographic researches were carried out on the origins of egg painting, studying the symbolism of the designs, as well as the history of superstitions, myths and traditions relating to the decoration of eggs.
An authentically decorated egg is a piece of museum value, which, by its design, color, dye, and method of painting is a representative of folk tradition. It is a protector of traditions, which it may also bequeath to future generations.
Contemporary active folk artists, folk artists of applied art, and industrial designers readily using the egg shape can be contacted at any time, not just around Easter time, and their decorations may be purchased and collected.
