The Makám band is probably the most well known band in Hungary playing world-music. The band celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2006. The compositions by Zoltán Krulik lead us to our inner selves, while ancient Hungarian virtue is flowing from the music.
The stylish compositions and the thought-provoking contents are both based on the traditions of Middle- and South-Eastern Europe. The music of Makám is the synthesis of the music of our days and the inspirations rooting in archaic folk songs, presented in such a manner that is always welcomed by loud ovation by the audience. The band gains inspiration mostly from Hungarian and South-Eastern European, or even Arabic, oriental or African culture, which is refined by spontaneous improvisations of “free music".
